Introduction

Tzu Chi University (TCU) is a human-centered university that promotes character education and global citizenship behavior from globalized perspectives.
Social and environmental sustainability - TCU educates students with knowledge and skills of social and environmental sustainability (e.g., respect for life, vegetarian meals, green lifestyle) for the earth.
Inclusive Learning Environment - Small-class settings encourage interactive discussions between faculty members and students and promote creativity and innovation. TCU has most of the faculty members with a Ph. D. Degree (86.59%). The ratio of faculty to students around 1:10 suggests quality of education. TCU provides multimedia educational systems and online courses for interactive communication.
Silent mentor humanistic practices – TCU provides professional and humanistic education with core values of “gratitude, respect, and love.” Pioneering the practice of the “Silent Mentor Program” the university trains medical students' surgical skills through silent mentors (body donors). The program weaves professional medical training with humanistic appreciation. Students learn selfless giving on behalf of donors and become excellent physicians through this involvement since their altruistic spirits are cultivated.
Volunteer “moms and dads” - TCU provides social and emotional support for students through academic advisers, volunteer “moms and dads” and a Counseling Center. Volunteer “moms and dads” are senior Tzu Chi volunteers with diversity in the profession including professors, doctors, lawyers, civil servants, and businessmen. They play the roles of students’ confidants and accompany students throughout their 4-year undergraduate program.
