International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship

Benefit
Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living allowance (excluding four-week study students) and a comprehensive medical insurance. The living allowance per person is CNY 2,500/Month for undergraduates, one-academic-year study students and one-semester students, and CNY 3,000/Month for Master’s Degree students of TCSOL. The comprehensive medical insurance is purchased by TUTCM in accordance with relevant regulations of studying in China stipulated by the Ministry of Education of China. Insurance fee per person is CNY 160 for four-week study students, CNY 400 for one-semester students, and CNY 800 per year for students in program longer than one academic year.
Requirement
1. Non-Chinese citizen.
2. In good Physical and mental condition, well performed both academically and behaviorally.
3. Committed to the Chinese language education and related work.
4. Between the age of 16 and 35 (by Sept. 1, 2020). Applicant currently working as a Chinese language teacher shall not be over 45, while undergraduate applicant shall not exceed 25 years of age.
5. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)
Admitted at September 2020 and sponsored for two academic years maximum.
a. Bachelor’s Degree;
b. The applicant shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK (Level 5) and a score of 60 in HSKK (Intermediate Level). Priority is considered if providing an agreement with a
teaching institution in which the applicant will be working after graduation, or any related certification to proof the working status after graduation.
6. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages(BTCSOL) Admitted at September 2020 and sponsored for four academic years
maximum.
a. High school graduate;
b. The applicant shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK (Level 4) and a score of 60 in HSKK (Intermediate Level).
7. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study Admitted at September 2020, and sponsored for 11 months maximum.
a. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.
b. Courses
a) Chinese Language Study
The applicant shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK (Level 3). Priority is considered if providing an HSKK score.
b) Chinese Language
The applicant shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK (Level 4) and a 60 in HSKK (intermediate level).
c) TCSOL
The applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in HSK (Level 3) and an HSKK score is required.
8. Scholarship for One-Semester Study
Admitted either in September 2020 or March 2021, and sponsored for five months maximum.
a. Applicants holding X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.
b. Courses
a) Traditional Chinese Medicine
An HSK (Level 3) score is required. Priority is considered if providing an HSKK score.
b) Chinese Language
The applicant shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK (Level 3) and an HSKK score is required.
c) TCSOL
The applicant shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK (Level 3) and an HSKK score are required.
9. Scholarship for Four-Week Study
Admitted either in July or December of 2020, and sponsored for four weeks.
a. Applicants holding X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.
b. Courses
a) Traditional Chinese Medicine
An HSK (Level 2 or 3) score is required. Priority is considered if providing an HSKK score.
b) Taiji Culture
An HSK (Level 2 or 3) score is required. Priority is considered if providing an HSKK score.
c) Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes
An HSK score are required. The program shall be organized and applied by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants. A detailed study plan shall be made in consultation with
the host institution in advance and such plan shall be submitted to CIH for approval.

Online registration will be available from March 1, 2020 on the Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship website (cis.chinese.cn). Please log on to search recommending institutions first. Complete and submit the Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form online, and upload the scanned copies of the following supporting documents:
1. A scanned copy of the passport photo page.
2. A scanned copy of score reports of HSK and HSKK (within the two-year validity).
3. A Recommendation letter by the head of the recommending institution.
4. A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.
5. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Keep the original copy well and ask the doctor to fill in the form in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed. Incomplete records, those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a stamp on the photograph of the applicant are invalid. Applicants should have the physical exam later than Mar., 2020 and bring ALL the original documents and attachments when coming to China).
6. Applicants for Master’s degree program of TCSOL shall submit two recommendation letters signed by two different professors or associate professors. Priority is considered if providing agreement with teaching institution where applicants will be working after graduation.
7. Applicants are currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide the proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employing institution.
8. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in Tianjin, China.
Note: For the above mentioned documents, non-Chinese and non-English versions shall be translated and notarized in English.

3) Language levels
The applicants should meet the language requirements of TUTCM, and provide relevant certifications: HSK certificate or other certificates on Chinese Language test. But the requirement is not as strict for those who only attend the courses in English.
4) The applicants are not allowed to apply for other kinds of scholarship.
5) The requirements for on-campus applicants
1 The applicants must be self-financing Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Doctoral degree international students who have already registered in TUTCM. Applicants who have asked for suspension of schooling, retaining student status or extension of schooling over last academic year are not qualified.
2 Applicants must have a good performance in school: NO absence, violations of school regulations, or violations of Chinese laws and regulations.
3 Applicants must have a good attitude toward study and work hard, whose academic performance should be excellent in the previous academic year.
4 No other scholarships at the same year.
