Introduction

Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology is dedicated to achieving the holistic goal of education, which is to nurture professionals who are equipped with technical knowledge and skills and at the same time, humanistic dispositions. The University stresses the importance of life and moral education. The curriculum design focuses on shaping the students such that they possess both professional knowledge as well as the unique Tzu Chi humanistic characteristic. Both theoretical and practical, and functional approaches are the emphasis in the curriculum design.
Founded in 1989, Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology currently comprises of five disciplinary programs for the undergraduate, i.e., a Two, Four or Five-year College of Nursing, Department of Medical Imaging and Radiological Sciences, Department of Health Administration, Department of Marketing and Distribution Management and Department of Information Technology and Management respectively. Besides, it offers the graduate program at the Graduate Institute of Long-term Care, Institute of Radiological Sciences and Master program of Nursing.
For more than thirty years since its establishment, the university is widely recognized by the community for excelling in both teaching and school management. For that, it was awarded several funds and awards and from the Ministry of Education (MOE). Besides, the University is accredited by the MOE for its outstanding performance in the items of governance and management as well as for the professional programs, in both the school and department levels.it has been affirmed by the Ministry of Education that TCUST has become an index institution for technical and vocational education in Eastern Taiwan. The Times Higher Education special issue has announced the latest 2021 world university rankings, which Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology has been ranked 401 to 600. The University actively promotes research, cooperation with the industry to improve the teaching quality, as well as to expand students' international horizons, and thus won several invention awards internationally.

New International Student Scholarships/Financial Aid

Benefit

The number of awarded students is determined according to the annual budget. During the academic year, the highest scholarship amount may cover tuition and miscellaneous expenses, dormitory fees, cafeteria expenses, and monthly living allowance of up to NT$5,000 for a maximum of nine months per year.

Requirement

1. International students meeting any one of the following criteria are deemed students with excellent academic performance:
A. Students obtaining a score of 6A or higher out of 10 subjects in SPM or a score of 4A or higher in the Unified Examination Certificate(UEC) in Malaysia;
B. Students obtaining a score of 4A in PT3 or a score of 3A or higher in the Unified Examination Certificate(UEC) for Junior High School Students in Malaysia;
2. Students from low-income families and with special circumstances who have passed the review and been approved by the University’s Admissions Committee.
3. Students enrolling in the spring semester of the University can apply for the scholarship by high school pre-test scores in the current year or three-year scores in high school. Its application is graded by a semester; for the following academic year, formal test scores or three-year scores in high school are needed to reapply.

The amount and number of awarded students of the scholarship shall be determined by the Admissions Committee upon review and approval.

Student Emergency Allowance

Benefit

The present allowance is disbursed on an irregular basis, and is granted to students once for each event in accordance with the following principles:
1. Students of two-parent families supporting his/her family’s livelihood due to encountering death; on principle, a maximum of NT$10,000 is provided as financial aid if the parents are confirmed to be unemployed.
2. Students of single-parent families encountering death, severe injury, or illness that created financial difficulties for the family; on principle, a maximum of NT$5,000 is provided as financial aid.
3. Students with deceased parents or encountering accidents resulting in death; on principle, a maximum of NT$10,000 is provided as financial aid.
4. Other emergency events confirmed through home visits may be eligible for financial aid or other forms of assistance as per individual situations.

Requirement

Students encountering any of the following situation during schooling may apply for the Student Emergency Allowance:
1. Family members encountering accidents, resulting in financial difficulties.
2. Student encountering an accident that results in severe injury or illness, which affects his/her learning and requires financial aid.
3. Student reviewed as requiring financial aid following other emergencies.

Application procedures:
1. Students satisfying the criteria listed in Article 3 of the present regulations may apply for the present allowance online themselves or through the academic advisor and counselling military instructor by filling out the application form through the Student Information System. The application form is printed, attached with relevant documents of proof, and submitted to the Student Activity Guidance Division of the Office of Student Affairs. Subsequently, advice from
and interviews with the academic advisor and Office of Humanities will be sought.
2. Supporting documents of proof are as follows:
(1) Original copy of the Household Registration Transcript of the entire household for the last 3 months; the transcripts of the other households are required if the individuals are listed in separate households, and the remarks column may not be left blank.
(2) Copies of documents proving a major accident, such as a certificate of diagnosis, death certificates, copy of funeral cost receipts, or certification of major accident (these do not need to be attached if not available).

Publicly-funded Program

Benefit

The method of scholarship grant is as stated :
1. Grants and aid projects:
Including tuition, miscellaneous fees, internship (inspection) fees, accommodation fees, meal fees and allowance.
2. Disburse method:
(1) Tuition, miscellaneous fees, and internship (inspection) fees are all paid by the Association to the school in accordance with the prescribed standards.
(2) Other than the cash voucher provided during the off-campus internship period, the cafeteria fee will be given out by the school in the form of stored value in student’s ID (in accordance by month and cannot be deferred).
(3) Allowance (Each semester includes four months’ worth, and will be issued by the school entrusted by the Association once in a semester.)
(4) Accommodation fee (only for students who live on campus, and will be paid to the school directly per semester.)
Students will not be subsidized for expenses incurred in (winter/summer) extra classes , postponement of graduation, etc. and other extended expenses.

Requirement

1. Only eligible for students participating in Nursing Department (freshman and above)
2. Academic Requirements: Results from the previous year must be scored 75 and above . For conduct score(behavior) must reach up to 80 and above.
3. Those who can uphold the Tzu Chi spirit of "compassion ,kindness, emphatic , equanimity" and volunteering spirit, and truly abide by the obligation for grant students, and have been reviewed and recommended by the school's humanities department (office).
4. Only eligible for those who have nationality of the Republic of China, but those who have been approved by the Tzu Chi Foundation are not limited to this rule.

Apply

This scholarship application is accepted by the Humanities Department (office) of the school.
The applicant should be attached with one copy of each of the following documents:
1. The application form after you have passed the school's preliminary examination.
2. Transcript certificate (new students need a certificate of admission).
3. Autobiography of more than 600 words.
4. Other supporting documents.
Application notes are as follows:
1. The scholarship grant is limited to a one-time application
2. The application for scholarships should be completed within two weeks after the start of the last semester.
3. The contract period for applying the scholarship grant is determined by the Tzu Chi Foundation.

Availability

The amount and number of recipients of the scholarship shall be determined by Tzu Chi Foundation based on the manpower needs of each professional body.

Scholarships for Academic Excellence

Benefit

The qualified individuals are awarded NT 20,000 per semester. Also, the top one student in the class will be granted free on-campus accommodation and free school meals.

Requirement

1. Academic performance: grade average of 80 and above with at least 10 credits per semester ; the grades with which courses were waived are not counted into the semester grade average.
2. Conduct grades: 80 and above, with no record of demerits (or three cumulative admonitions), including demerits that have been offset.
3. Physical education grades: 75and above . First to fourth year students in the 5-year diploma program and first to second year students of the 4-year bachelor program must have Physical Education grades, the course grades with which the Physical Education course was waived must meet the present criteria to apply.
4. Volunteer hours: at least 12 hours for the semester (excluding the required volunteering hours mandated by the regulations for receiving various types of financial aid awarded by the University) before Week 18 (including) of the semester.
5. Students who have not accepted other scholarships/financial aid (excluding the Scholarship for Low-Income Students) of the University will be prioritized.

Apply

Following the initial review of the application documents by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office submits a roster list to the University's Student Scholarship/Financial Aid Committee for a second review (convened at the beginning of the following semester).

Availability

The top 10% exemplary students in the class are selected to receive the scholarship based on their outstanding academic achievement.
