(I)Pre-World War II Era
1. Founded on June 30, 1899, the school was initially named “Tainan Teachers School.”
2. On July 10, 1903, the school was closed.
3. On July 19, 1918, the Tainan branch was founded by the Taiwan Governor’s General Office Mandarin School.
4. On April 2, 1919, the school was renamed ”Taiwan Governor’s General Office Tainan Teachers College.”
5. On March 10, 1922, new school buildings in Tong-Pan-Qian were built.
6. On April 1, 1943, the school was changed to a three-year college.
(II)Post-War Era
1. The school was renamed “Taiwan Provincial Tainan Normal School.”
2. The school was relocated to #33 Shu-Lin St., Section 2, Tainan.
(III)Change to a Normal School
1. The school was changed to a normal school and was renamed “Taiwan Provincial Tainan Teachers College” on August 15, 1962.
2. The school motto was chosen to be “mercy, intelligence, sincerity, and justice” in February 1976.
(IV) Change to a Teachers College
1. The school was changed to a teachers college and was renamed "Taiwan Provincial Tainan Teachers College" on July 1, 1987.
2. The Department of Elementary Education, Department of Languages and Literature Education, Department of Social Studies Education, Department of Science Education, Department of Special Education, Department of Five-Year General Study, and Department of Two-Year Early Childhood Education were established on July 1, 1987.
(V) Change to a National College
1. The school became a national college on July 1, 1991.
2. The school was renamed "National Tainan Teachers College."
(VI) National University of Tainan
1. The school established the Rongyu campus in 2003.
2. The school was officially named ‘National University of Tainan" on August 1, 2004.
