Introduction

Founded in 1956, Shanghai University of TCM,which was named Shanghai TCM College at the beginning, is one of the first four TCM higher education institutes since the foundation of the People’s Republic of China.

Adhering to the motto of “Diligence, Benevolence, Truth, Innovation”,the university inherits profound cultural legacy, strives to deliver high quality programs of unique strength, and pays great attention to clinical practice. The University regards academic and moral education as its fundamental mission, and promotes collaborative development of education, research and clinical service. In 1985, Shanghai Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded under the same management system with the university. In 1993, the name of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was officially taken.

In 2000, Shanghai Medical Vocational School was consolidated with the university.In 2003, the university was relocated toZhangjiang Hi-tech Park in Pudong New Area.
Over the past 60 years, the university has always been home to many distinguished doctors.The education strategy emphasizingsolid mastery of TCM knowledge and practice along with deep understanding of modern science and traditional Chinese culturehas achieved remarkable results.

The university takes close heed of frontierTCM technology and the critical demand of the country andcontinues tostrengthen international exchange & cooperation. The University currently has 8 affiliated hospitals.

It is also a high-caliber university prioritized by the Municipality and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education.In 2017, the programs of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Chinese Materia Medica were selected in the National Initiative for Developing Top-notch Programs.

In the fourth round of evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education, 3 programs including TCM, Chinese Materia Medica and Integrative Medicine were graded A+.
In welcoming the new era, the university will strive to become a world-class TCM university, which stresses excellence in both specialty disciplines and general ranking, and gives equal emphasis to inheritance and innovation, modernization & internationalization, giving full play to the power of TCM.

Benefit
Full scholarship: covers tuition, accommodation, living expenses and comprehensive health insurance. The amount varies according to the types of student .
Partial scholarship: one or some items of the full scholarship.
Requirement
1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health.

2. The requirements for applicants’ degree and age are that applicants must:

be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for the undergraduate programs;

be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for the master’s programs;

be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for the doctoral programs;

be under the age of 45 and have a high school diploma (or higher) when applying for the general scholar programs;

be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for the senior scholar programs.
Apply
Step 1 - Apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home country for CGS opportunity;

Step 2 - Apply to your target university for the Pre-admission Letter once recommended by the dispatching authorities as an eligible candidate (you will receive an Award Letter for CGS Candidate);

Step 3 - Complete the online application procedure at CGS Information Management System for International Students (Visit http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or http://www.campuschina.org and click “Application Online” to log in), submit online the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, and print a hard copy. You should consult the dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home country for Instructions of CGS Information Management System for International Students and Agency Number;

Step 4 - Submit all of your application documents to the dispatching authorities of your home country before the deadline.

NOTE

Only applications of recommended candidates from dispatching authorities will be considered. Candidates holding a Pre-admission Letter will be placed in the host university; those without the Pre-admission Letter should accept CSC’s placement of university.

Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students

Benefit
Type A (Full scholarship): covers tuition, expenses for accommodation and living, and medical insurance during the corresponding study period. It’s established to fund excellent prospective students applying for postgraduate, undergraduate and pre-college programs.

Type B (Partial scholarship): covers tuition and medical insurance during the corresponding study period. It’s established to fund excellent prospective students applying for postgraduate and undergraduate programs.
Requirement
(1) Applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen in good health.

(2) Age and education background:

Applicant applying for undergraduate programs, should obtain a high school degree or above and be no more than 25 years old; for master’s programs, applicant should have a bachelor degree or above and be no more than 35 years old; for PhD programs, applicant should have a master’s degree or above with academic research ability, and be no more than 40 years old.

Applicant applying for the pre-college program should obtain a high school degree under the age of 23 years old, with a letter of pre-admission of undergraduate program from a Shanghai university.

(3) Outstanding in academic performance.

(4) Language proficiency:

Generally, applicant should achieve Chinese level of HSK4 and meet the language requirements of the applied university and program.

(5) Meeting entry requirements of the applied university and program.

(6) Applicant that has received any other scholarships offered by Chinese government or organizations is not entitled to apply SGS.

Applicant can apply for the scholarship on the website. Application period is generally from February to April. The date and procedure of application may differ each year, please refer to the official websites of those universities.
