Merdeka University Berhad (MUB) was founded in 1969 and is now in its 54rd year. For the past several years, MUB has been striving to the promotion of the academic and technical and vocational higher education to meet the national industrial needs of technological transformation and economic upgrading. MUB also aims to cultivate international talents with modern craftsman spirit and help the government to achieve at least 55% of SPM holders to further studies in the field of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) by 2025.

MUB has initiated and organised numerous projects in promoting TVET related activities, including the provision of China TVET Scholarships (so far recommended approx. 500 Chinese high school leavers to further studies in TVET), successful organisation of Malaysia-China TVET Education Exhibition (current approx. 32 Chinese TVET institutions of higher learning to offer scholarships), introduction of Luban Workshop to train locals in the areas of cross-border e-commerce and refrigeration and air conditioning technology. Besides, we have also conducted countless TVET promotion seminars to students and parents of SMK, SMJK and Chinese Independent Schools as well as organised “Seeing is Believing” project for these school principals and teachers to visit TVET colleges and universities in China. Furthermore, MUB has also established Malaysia TVET Alliance and uploaded many institutional interview videos to promote technical and vocational education.


The current mission of MUB is to promote "China Technical and Vocational Education Scholarship" to help Malaysian youth to study abroad. MEC do provide Degree programs but more focus on Diploma programs, to catch up with the Industry 4.0 and the new ear of Artificial Intelligence and Information and communications technology.
