Founded in 1999, the Smart Health Care Services and Management programme is the first vocational college in China to offer this programme.
In 2005, it became the third batch of teaching reform pilot majors in Hunan Province, the first batch of key majors in the construction plan of national model higher vocational colleges in 2006, the
model specialty in Hunan Province in 2014, the first batch of pilot majors of modern apprenticeship system of the Ministry of Education and the first batch of national model majors of elderly care
services in vocational colleges in 2015. It has become a core major of the key construction group of Hunan Province's higher vocational colleges of excellence, a core major of Hunan Province's first-
class specialty group in 2018, a backbone major of the Action Plan for the Innovative Development of Higher Vocational Education (2015-2018) in 2019 and the first batch of national vocational
education teachers' teaching innovation team. In response to the urgent need for transformation and upgrading of the traditional health and elderly care industry in the context of digital economy, the
university has created the first model of intelligent health and elderly care professional group structure in China, which integrates five specialties of "medical, nursing, rehabilitation, elderly
care" (geriatric medicine, elderly care, elderly rehabilitation, elderly care management and intelligent elderly care). It has been successfully established as a high-level professional group
construction project under the National Vocational Education "Double High Plan", and is regarded by the industry as the "Whampoa Military School" for the training of senior professionals in elderly
care.
